This artwork was created for Pixar’s RenderMan Magic Shop Art Challenge, where I developed the lighting, lookdev and compositing for the final image, along with a full layer breakdown and asset lookdev.
----------------
The scene tells the story of Mathilda, a delivery witch — because witchcraft doesn’t pay much these days — who once owned this magic shop. It has since become a storage room for the countless packages she delivers every day. The moment depicted is when she returns from a long, stressful shift and finally allows herself a quiet moment of rest.
----------------
Pixar provided the untextured and unshaded base models for the character, interior and props. All shading, lighting and additional modeling were created by me.
----------------
For this challenge, I also experimented with Houdini to simulate the pile of books.
The main DCC was Maya, with texturing done primarily in Substance Painter and some support from Photoshop.
The final image was rendered with RenderMan and composited/graded in Nuke.
